Standing on the shoulders of the legendary Empirical Labs Distressor, the Arouser compression plugin with a broadband saturator brings classic knee compression to your DAW. Admiration for the 1176, LA-2A, and other vintage compressors led Dave Derr to create the Distressor in 1995, and compression has never sounded the same.

Enter the Arouser. Featuring an attack modification control, Arouser allows fine-tuning of the attack so you can add varying degrees of transient back to the track. Perfect for preserving the sonic signature of a snare or electric bass while keeping the desired amount of compression. The Arouser's secret weapon is its broadband saturation control. By adding harmonic distortion you can perceptibly warm your digitally recorded tracks to add that vintage character. The saturation knob goes from mild to wild, there's no 10, only more.

Create a punchy ambient sound by slamming room mics using rivet mode which delivers the steepest available compression ratio. You can also fine-tune the sidechain with the advanced detector sidechain EQ that lets you choose the exact point on the frequency spectrum you want to trigger compression. The sidechain EQ is ideal for triggering bass compression with a kick drum while preserving the low end.
