The power of 5.9K full-frame technology is available to you with Canon's EOS C700 FF - a top-end digital cinema camera with a 20.8MP CMOS sensor with this model utilizing a PL mount (Please note that for Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology that is available in the EF mount verison.)
Designed to meet an extensive range of production needs, the EOS C700 FF's full-frame sensor provides higher resolution and produces footage with shallower depth of field than Canon cameras with Super 35mm sized sensors, giving filmmakers a variety of creative options. This cinema camera is capable of 5.9K RAW recording up to 60 frames per second with the optional Codex CDX-36150 Recorder, and this camera can also record ProRes and XF-AVC up to 4K to internal CFast™ cards. The sensor can record footage in a wide variety of aspect ratios including the standardized DCI 17:9. It also offers exceptionally low noise, broad-ranging tonality that exceed 15 stops of dynamic range and a wide color gamut supporting the ITU-R BT.2100 standard for outstanding effectiveness in HDR video production.
The C700 FF supports readout with 3 different Sensor Modes -- Full Frame, Super 35mm (Cropped), and Super 16mm (Cropped). Choose the sensor mode for the look you’re after, or simply the type of glass you are using. This enables the use of full frame glass that can cover the 43.1mm sensor diagonal, as well as conventional Super 35mm lenses, and the sensor area is also an excellent match for the effective image circle of anamorphic lenses. On top of that, the Super 16mm mode enables use of S16mm legacy lenses, and in the same mode with a B4 mount adaptor, like the Canon MO-4, 2/3” ENG broadcast lenses, as well.
When oversampling 5.9K in 4K/UHD recording, moiré is suppressed and noise graininess improved, resulting in higher quality video compared to native 4K image capture. Additional highlights of the EOS C700 FF include an impressive dynamic range of 15 stops, Canon Log 2 and 3, Slow/Fast Motion Recording, IP Streaming and support for ACES, SMPTE ITU-R BT.2100 (HDR) and User LUTs.
The rugged magnesium body was built with rounded edges and semi-circular sides behind the lens mount that hint at the Canon Cinema design legacy. The EOS C700 FF can be equally comfortable handheld, shoulder-mounted, on a tripod head, steadicam, gimbal rig, jib, crane or car mount. An optional professional grade OLED HD electronic viewfinder (EVF-V70) offers additional versatility. The camera is also compatible with a variety of lens configurations including anamorphic and B4 (with the optional MO-4E adapter).
NOTE: Owners of Canon's EOS C700 Super 35mm models can replace their current sensors with this new technology for a fee by Canon’s Factory Service Center to create a full-frame camera. The EOS C700 FF will also be offered in both EF and PL mount versions, and these lens mounts can also be swapped between EF Cinema Lock and PL. Whatever your needs, you’ll have the entire EOS C700 camera system and its proven reliability at your disposal.
