The AEA TRP2 builds and improves upon the best of the original TRP – the first preamp designed specifically with ribbon mics in mind – and reflects AEA's effort to improve their preamps as well as to continue the streamlined and moderne aesthetic of the AEA product lineup. After taking into consideration user and dealer feedback, the TRP2 follows the same re-design path that spawned the RPQ2 and RPQ 500 preamps (both sold separately).
First off, the TRP2 preamp now includes phantom power. Though historically passive in design, ribbon mic trends have gradually shifted toward active electronics. At this time, nearly half the microphones in the AEA line require phantom power.
Providing peace of mind for the cautious engineer, each of the TRP2's 2 channels is equipped with an internal phantom power toggle switch which can be armed to prevent accidental phantom power activation from its front-panel buttons.
Like the RPQ2 (sold separately), the new TRP2 has a higher input impedance of 63 kOhms and will have 85 dB total output. The TRP2 delivers more gain than pretty much any other preamp available today.
Taking into consideration non-US users, the TRP2 comes with a universal switching supply that eliminates the need for those users to swap out the power supply.
The TRP2 can be purchased with a set of rack ears that allows mounting a single TRP2 in a single rack space (available separately, please contact your Sales Pro for further details).
(2) TRP2s can be mounted side-by-side while only taking up a single rack space using a Mid-Atlantic Shelf (sold separately, please contact your Sales Pro for further details); a corresponding screw-mounting hole on the bottom of the unit allows you to screw through the prefabricated holes on the shelf.
