The Atlona AT-UHD-SYNC is designed to analyze errors, identify issues and restore failed HDMI signals. It also provides a preset or learned EDID to an HDMI source ensuring the HDMI source provides a signal optimized for the display to achieve the best picture and sound. The AT-UHD-SYNC is used by installing it into the HDMI signal path between the source and switcher or between source and display if no switcher is present. The device provides an HDMI input and output on the rear panel for these connections. To test and analyze the HDMI connection, the AT-UHD-SYNC is equipped with three LEDs which indicate the presence and state of 5V, hot plug detect, and HDCP signals, helping the installer isolate the cause of a connection failure. It resolves issues that cause costly and time-consuming troubleshooting calls such as loss of video, intermittent or flashing video, snow, and color-space incompatibility where the image is tinted purple or green.
Solving clock stretching issues
Tens of millions of aging cable boxes and other HDMI 1.2 source devices are still in use. Incorporating these within an HDBaseT switching and distribution system along with new HD and UHD displays often presents connectivity and compatibility issues that don't become apparent until equipment is actually installed on-site. The AT-UHD-SYNC performs signal regeneration to resolve clock stretching issues with unsupported HDMI 1.2 devices.
In addition to the potential compatibility issues with legacy components, HDMI connection problems can also be caused by damaged or excessively long HDMI cable runs that prevent the necessary EDID handshake required between source and video display. The AT-UHD-SYNC provides the necessary 5V to the display to initiate a HPD event and establish EDID handshaking. The device can also provide EDID information to the source to ensure the correct video resolution and audio format is sent to the display. The device features a front panel selector with nine preset emulation modes as well as a learning mode to capture the display's EDID in the event the display does not match one of the presets.
Invaluable troubleshooting tool and cost-effective system correction device
In many cases, the AT-UHD-SYNC allows the installer to identify problems which are easily remedied by replacing an accessible HDMI cable. For more complex issues involving inaccessible cables, hot plug detect issues or missing 5V signals, the AT-UHD-SYNC provides the installer with a quick and permanent in-line solution allowing the system to operate correctly and reliably. This cost-effective device saves the installer valuable troubleshooting time. It also saves the customer money, avoiding a more costly required system correction or component update. The device is also a permanent in-line problem solver for HDBaseT distribution applications between HDMI 1.2 compliant sources and HDMI 1.3 or 1.4 compliant displays.
The AT-UHD-SYNC measures less than three inches in width and depth, and less than one inch tall. Its slender design ensures easy integration into confined spaces. A pair of wall mount brackets are included for ease of installation. It is USB powered via the supplied 5VDC/1A power supply or from local USB devices using the included Mini USB to USB "A" cable.
Challenge: No video output from Cisco/Scientific Atlanta cable set top box when integrated into an HDBaseT system.
Solution: HDMI 1.2 sources such as the Cisco/Scientific Atlanta cable set top box do not support HDMI 1.3 clock stretching protocol. Signal regeneration in the AT-UHD-SYNC ensures HDMI 1.2 sources will transmit HDMI signals to the display. (See application drawing on the left).
Challenge: Audio and Video signals have intermittent dropouts or the source is not providing any picture, sound or both.
Solution: Resolves lost signal issues that are caused by missing EDID information or improper handshaking due to damaged or excessively long HDMI cables and restores signals by supplying EDID information from one of nine stored EDID files or a learned EDID file.
Challenge: How do I troubleshoot missing picture or sound?
Solution: Three LED Status indicators on the AT-UHD-SYNC front panel show the presence of: 5V from the source, Hot Plug Detect at the display, and source/display HDCP compliance. These are possible indications of cable distance limitation, incorrect termination or a break/short in one of the twisted pairs. These prevent a hot plug event from occurring. Missing EDID and HDCP reporting will also prevent audio video signal transmission.
