At last, a network switch for lighting systems—designed by a lighting network technology leader. Pathway Connectivity's Pathport VIA 10 (model#: 6730) is a 10 port +1 Layer 2/3 Gigabit switch that comes with EtherCon® connectors, and provides Class 1 Power-over-Ethernet on all ports. Port status and configuration settings are easily reviewed and set via the front panel LCD. IP parameters and other features are quickly set using the encoder knob.
The Pathport VIA comes equipped with a base configuration known to work with the vast majority of lighting systems. Should a management processor failure occur, the VIA will still function as an unmanaged switch.
A front panel LCD along with encoder knob—something not found on most enterprise switches—offer the user a quick review of status information as well as to set configuration. IP addresses are quickly set with no need of a serial connection or web browser, eliminating a common stumbling block when setting up a network. An SFP port mounted on the rear acts as a 1GB fiber port (requiring a user-provided mini-GBIC connector).
A simple VLAN interface gives users with limited networking knowledge access to powerful routing tools. Link mode lets a user force a slower connection speed - a handy workaround to help compensate for poor wiring. Up to 10 Class 1 PoE devices may be powered using 60W of on-board PoE (power-over-Ethernet). Loading of PoE can be adjusted or limited port-by-port.
From the LCD, all connected Pathport devices can be reviewed, including the device name, IP settings, MAC address and serial number, and operating firmware version. Additionally, switch configuration and logging can be saved to external media using the integrated SD and USB ports.
The VIA fills a long-standing industry need, and for the first time, provides the sourcing of a complete Ethernet-based lighting data distribution system from a single supplier.
