Product Overview

Horita's GPS-MTG uses the accuracy of the atomic clocks in the Global Positioning System to generate SMPTE longitudinal time code matched to UTC, offset to local time or time and date, day-after-day, month-after-month, year-after-year, unattended, anywhere in the world. When generated by the GPS-MTG, SMPTE time code now becomes an accurate global real-time clock/calendar, allowing video images separated across the city, state, continent, or globe, to be simultaneously recorded with the same time and date stamp.

Features:

  • Generates drop frame format SMPTE time code locked to an external NTSC color video (RS-170A) reference. Continuously monitors satellite time and date and maintains correct generator time.
  • Use as precision stand alone SMPTE studio clock reference to time and control events or studio automation systems, operate various SMPTE display devices for accurate time-of-day readouts, or time and date stamp video images.
  • RS-232 output with HSIP (Horita Standard Interface Protocol) data for input to a PC. MTG Time software is included to preset and maintain the PC clock/calendar at UTC or local time using the HSIP data input.
  • Automatic daylight savings (NTSC only) time mode insures that local time advances by one hour at 2:00 AM on the first Sunday in April, then falls back on the last Sunday in October.
  • Front panel LED and video "time code window" display show a flashing 1-PPS "GPS locked" indicator to provide a positive visual indication of active lockup to the GPS system.
  • "Fail-safe" alarm logic output provides remote indication of power or video loss or GPS antenna disconnection.
  • Manual mode operation with or without GPS receiver allows manual preset of time and user bit data. Front panel switches and controls select GPS/manual operation, manual initiation of GPS time fix, time-zone setup, user bit data as GPS date or manually entered information, video display ON/OFF, large/small vertical size, variable horizontal size and position. Setup information is stored in non-volatile memory.
  • Extra front panel RCA connector provides quick and convenient access to time code output. Rear panel DB-9 connector provides additional 1-PPS and 1-PPM pulse outputs for operating studio clock systems.
  • Complete system includes ruggedized GPS Antenna/Receiver, 50 ft. GPS-to-MTG cable, 6 ft. MTG-to-computer cable, power adapter, instruction manual, Windows clock software. Optional cable lengths allow up to 300 ft. of separation between GPS antenna/receiver and Master Time Code generator.
  • Occupies 1/3 of a standard HORITA 1-3/4" x 19" rack panel which can hold two additional HORITA products for use with the GPS-MTG, such as a GPS-MSG Master Sync Generator or CSG-50 Color Bar Sync Generator, and VG-50 VITC Generator/LTC-VITC translator.
  • Can share an antenna with GPS-MSG
  • May useVG-50 to translate SMPTE LTC to VITC
  • Use PR-232 and MTG Time to lock computer clock to studio LTC
