Loaded with 20 Mackie Onyx preamps and 20 high-headroom/low-noise line inputs, the 2404VLZ4 delivers clear, crisp audio reproduction in a versatile, reliable, and portable package. The 2404VLZ4 is full of must-have features for live mixing, project, or professional studios and other applications.
Channels 1-20 feature a 3 band equalizer (EQ) with selectable midrange frequency while the stereo channels provide 4-band fixed EQ for enhancing signals and correcting problems. Critical in the studio, the 2404 comes with pre-fade listen/after-fade listen (PFL/AFL) soloing to help pinpoint problems during a session. Communication is important so Mackie included a talkback feature with 2404 so the control room and live room are on the same page. You get six full-featured auxiliary sends per channel that can be used to create separate headphone mixes, or when coupled with a stereo return, you could compress a drum kit submix. There are also 20 balanced channel inserts so you can connect your favorite compressors, gates or effects units. Inline compressors are also included in the 4 subgroups, and on channels 17-20, this frees up your gear while making sure critical inputs have dynamic control. Another studio friendly feature is the control room source matrix that lets you choose to listen to any of four different sources through the console's control room stereo outputs. If you have an 8 track recorder simply use the channel 1-8 direct outputs and 1-9 channel inputs on the 2404 to create an elegant split-monitor set up with channels to spare. You could, in turn, use the USB input to monitor playback from your DAW if you're tracking to your computer. All 20 mic input channels have phantom power so you can use condenser microphones, while Low-cut filters on those channels help reduce the low-frequency noise condensers often pick up.
With a rugged steel chassis built to handle load-ins and load-outs, the 1604 also shines in a live setting. For instance, having 4 buses means you could create submixes of the drums and background vocals allowing simple two fader control of both elements in the mix. And doesn't It always seems like you never have enough effects units for a live show? Well, the 2404VLZ4 changes all that. With dual 32-bit processors and 24 built-in "gig ready" verbs, choruses and tap delays, you'll never have that problem again. There's even an integrated 4 x 2 24-bit USB interface that allows you to stream the subgroups or master to your computer for recording. Sealed rotary controls make sure the unavoidable dirt, dust, and road grime won't affect your console.
The 2404 is also engineered to provide a high degree of radio frequency (RF) rejection making it a good fit for broadcasting applications. So whether for the studio, live performance or both, the flexible Mackie 2404VLZ4 is a solid choice.
