A type of “Y” cord, insert patch cables allow mixing consoles to send/return signals to an outboard effect processor, say a digital reverb. Typically the I/O (inputs/outputs) start as a T/R/S 1/4” output jack on the mixing console. Sends typically go through the tip and returns through the ring and there is a common ground, the sleeve. The cable needs to be wired properly and each end needs to be identi?ed for the user, to ensure proper hook-ups. Obviously, a wide variety of insert patch cables is necessary to accommodate the wide variety of processors available.
