The American gear on which this strip is based is highly recognized for the way it boosts the power and energy of modern rock music. Artists such as Radiohead, Soundgarden, Foo Fighters, and Pearl Jam have used similar consoles. With this plug-in in action, drums bounce from speakers, vocals grab you by the scruff of the neck, guitars spontaneously combust. The American Class A is also capable of subtlety.
This plug-in becomes a high-resolution mastering unit by utilizing the range controls of the EQ to limit the gain boosting and cutting to a half or even a quarter of the starting values. Running a synth sound through these same hard-rocking controls can result in improved openness and vitality just as easily as increased grunt. This plug-in also seamlessly integrates with Console 1 as a channel strip, so anyone using a Console 1 will have the added benefit of Console 1's analog workflow and features.

Potential Console 1/American Class A plugin owners: Be aware that the GUI shown on Softube’s own product pages is *not* what you’ll see when using the Console 1 version of American Class A. Softube doesn’t bother to inform you that the Console 1 version’s gimped GUI even exists, let alone make a clear distinction between the two. In fact, I can hardly find mention of the gimped GUI anywhere; aside from being buried toward the end of one of their YouTube promotional videos, and in a single post(made by a Console 1 owner) on a popular mixing forum. Kind of hard to imagine that’s just an “unintentional oversight”.. seems more like a convenient omission, IMO.. It’s also hard to imagine that a handful of simple, colored knobs would have made much of a dent in the performance of the plugin. Can we at least be given a choice between the two GUIs, Softube?
