Etymotic Research's ETY•Plugs model ER20-SMC, a part of their ETY•Plugs series – the highest-fidelity, non-custom earplugs in the world – are engineered to reduce most noise to safe levels, while still preserving speech clarity along with music richness; they're designed to match the ear canal's natural response, so that when sound comes into the earplug, it's accurately replicated – the same as the ear would hear it – just quieter.

Regular usage of these high-fidelity earplugs when involved with higher sound-level events will protect hearing from the cumulative effects of overexposure to loud sounds throughout life. Just as a note, acclimation to these earplugs may take a little time.

• A little time may be required to acclimate to these earplugs. Many musicians report that they hear their own instruments better, as well as the balance with those around them.
  • ETY•Plugs use a tuned resonator and acoustic resistor to replicate the natural response of the ear canal. It's a unique construction, that combined with Etymotic's proprietary sound path, evenly reduces sound levels across the frequency range without altering the sound quality. This results in music and speech remaining clear, just at quieter and safer levels.
  • ETY•Plugs provide nearly equal sound reduction (20 dB) across the range of hearing. Alternately, foam earplugs reduce the high frequencies which results in muffled speech and music.

NOTE: ETY•Plugs are reusable, but with heavy use, the eartip material weaken and break. For best performance and retention, especially with constant use of your ETY•Plugs, replace them every 3-6 months.

*NOTE: All ears are different. It is impossible to predict the size of an ear canal by the appearance of the outer ear, or by a person's physical size, age or gender. The 2 available sizes of ETY•Plugs fit almost 100% of ear canals. Recent studies of both fit and seal conducted at Etymotic Research and an independent lab showed that the smaller of the 2 available sizes fits the majority of ears and is now designated as standard fit (larger-sized earplugs are sold separately).
