The TAC-5 from CircuitWerkes is a dial-up remote control that's ideal for studio and automation control. It combines a telephone autocoupler with a password-protected DTMF remote control which handes remote broadcasts or general dial-up control from anywhere. The unit automatically answers the phone on a user set number of rings and waits for you to enter your password (from none to 8 digits). After you enter your password, you get full control of the TAC-5's relays. Audio is passed to and from the telephone line, making the TAC-5 great for unattended remote broadcasting. And while the telephone interface lets you get your audio on the air, you can use the TAC-5's relays to control your automation system or even put yourself direclty on the air, bypassing everything else in your air chain. Its direct to air mode is not only handy for remotes, it also works great for emergency broadcasts when weather strikes, etc.

Its relays are individually programmable for momentary, latching, or interlocked operation, with each relay programmable to decode any of the 16 DTMF tones. Any relay can be tied to any other for modes such as latching and interlocked, and can return a beep acknowledge tone that tells you when you've activated an output. it includes a 2-tone sequence mode that prevents accidental contact closures when you're using it for remote broadcasts.

The TAC-5 features a logic-level input that can cause it to call you or your pager or phone number (up to 24 digits long).

Further, it features an audio hybrid that allows you to control the unit while monitoring an external audio source. That makes it a terrific choice for EAS monitoring, remote controlled audio switcher, etc. Of course, an active, balanced telephone audio feed, with send and receive gain controls is brought out so that you can put the telephone audio on the air or into a recorder. A second, user-set password is available, allowing the TAC-5 to be used as a listening-only device. When the secondary password is entered, the TAC-5 passes send audio to the caller and will stay on-line, but the caller has no control over the unit's relays. Additional ground sink outputs occur when the TAC-5 seizes the phone line and when it hangs up. Programming is easily done from any DTMF telephone. The TAC-5 is compatible with both the CP-1 Call Progress Decoder option.
