Product Overview

The Apex Electronics Apex210B Large Element Ribbon microphone is generally considered to be the ideal microphone for vocals, solo instruments and any broadcast application, the classic ribbon microphone design boasts the most natural sounding audio capture available.

The active element of the Apex210 is a very thin corrugated aluminum ribbon mounted under low tension between the poles of a strong magnet. The asymmetrical figure-8 pickup pattern has an extended sweet spot on the rear face of the microphone allowing the recording to accurately reproduce the natural space and ambient reverberation of a good sounding live room with incredibly fast and accurate transient response and stunning realism. The Apex210 ribbon microphone is ideal for todays direct to digital recordings.

Although ribbon microphones are by their nature extremely fragile, the Apex210B can handle high sound pressure levels approaching 165dB range. The low-tension 2" long, 2-micron thick aluminum ribbon design offers audio reproduction with smooth, natural extended low and high frequency response. The Apex210B comes in an all new black and smoked chrome finish, and is shipped with a custom designed aluminum carrying case.

I have used the Classic RCA microphone in broadcast and can state that for voice over or on-air announcers this microphone is very close to the classic sound. It is build and finished well. My reason for 4 stars and not 5 is because you must use a screen in front to keep from blowing out the ribbon. I have made and replaced mine, and it actually sounds better and now exactly like the classic 77 DX. Also keep away from phantom power and smokers!

Claude, What are you referring to when you say, "you must use a screen in front", then go on to say, "I have made and replaced mine"? Could you please explain? Thanks!

I replaced the fatory cloth screen with model airplane nylon covering behind the metal. I also replaced the ribbon on the motor. I recommend a mic pop screen in front of the mic to keep plosive down. I generally talk across and very close. but not directly in front of the mic,.
