Product Overview

A complete end-to-end solution for recording, editing, mixing, processing, and mastering, MOTU's Digital Performer 9 builds upon the previous versions of DP to create a DAW program that is both familiar and new at the same time. Digital Performer brings the worlds of MIDI sequencing, multitrack audio recording, virtual instruments, and loop and sound libraries together with shared editing, mixing, and processing features, along with dedicated tools for each type of workflow, giving you a seamless experience while making your next big hit.

Digital Performer also streamlines your workflow with the Consolidated Window, which allows you to quickly access major features such as the Sequence Editor, Mixing Board, and Waveform Editor via tabs across the top of the window. The layout is customizable too, so if you want to split the window vertically to view different functions side-by-side, it can be done easily. If you have a layout that you like to use day-in and day-out, you can save multiple custom layouts, so you're always working how you want to, rather than fighting with the software. You can even customize the overall look of Digital Performer with customizable Themes, which give you options to change the appearance and colors of the different windows within Digital Performer. There are multiple preset Themes provided, but you can also customize them further with the ability to change the colors of level meters, waveforms and other components of the layout. MOTU also updated Digital Performer to include support for Retina Displays, so if you've got an Apple computer with a Retina Display, you'll be able to take full advantage of it when using Digital Performer 9.

Other new additions to Digital Performer 9 include the MX4™ MultiSynth, which is a powerful 64-bit virtual instrument plugin with a hybrid synthesis engine that combines several forms of synthesis including subtractive, wavetable, frequency modulation (FM), amplitude modulation (AM), and analog emulation. Along with MX4, there are 5 additional new plugins included with DP9; MasterWorks™ FET-76™ emulation of the classic 1176LN limiting amplifier, MultiFuzz™ model of the seminal QuadraFuzz™ distortion kit, MicroG™ and MicroB™ polyphonic octave generators for guitar and bass, and the MegaSynth™ subtractive synth processor.

Digital Performer allows you to create multiple sequences in a single project. Regardless of what you create with DP, you'll undoubtedly end up producing multiple versions of it, and DP allows you to create a project file with all the different versions/sequences you need, that also share the same processing and virtual instruments. This gives you a powerful and streamlined workflow which is very useful in live performance settings when you need to recall different versions for different types of performances.

With Digital Performer 9, create as many tracks as you want, add as many sequences as you need, and record as many passes of a song until you get the perfect take, all without worrying about the need to create more than one project, which helps to keep the creativity flowing while working.

The transport controls within Digital Performer are straightforward and designed after a conventional tape deck, but many advanced features are also available just below the surface. Functions such as editing during playback, "Partial Solo" mode, configurable event chasing, scrubbing, advanced click programming, multi-track recording of audio and MIDI simultaneously, manual and auto punch-in, and overdub recording are available, along with many others.

New in Version 9, automation lanes display each type of automation data - volume, pan, plugin settings, etc - in their own lane below the parent track, allowing you to more easily see and make changes to your automation on the fly, so you get the perfect mix every time.

Another new innovation for this version of Digital Performer is the new Spectral Display, which shows the spectral content of each audio track, side by side with their waveforms. When looking at the Spectral Display, vertical position represents frequency while the brightness represents the intensity. This gives you a colorful and informative representation of the frequency content of your tracks, giving you another point of reference to ensure that every part of your project mixes well together.

Export your DP QuickScribe notation scores as a MusicXML file, which can then be imported into popular music notation applications like Finale™ and Sibelius™. QuickScribe's renowned notation transcription, along with dynamics and many other musical symbols, are preserved during the file transfer.
