The real head kick pad is definitely inferior to the mesh heads. However, you can buy a conversion kit for cheap. This particular model itself has fairly flimsy trigger wires but that's not the fault of the distributor. Full compass sells these for a good price! Very happy with them overall.

Great product while it was working! It’s the most responsive and best feeling kick pad I’ve played.. only got to play on it about 3 1/2 hours and it quit on me though. Customer service was great though and sent me a replacement so I’m hoping it was just a defective unit.

Good, solid bass drum trigger. The pad responds well to both felt and wood beaters. Metal construction throughout the pad; it is a stand alone trigger that you attach your bass drum pedal to - just like a real bass drum. The trigger also has the same spikes for anti-skid that you would find on bass drum spurs. I am using the RealHead Kick Pad to expand my Alesis SamplePad Pro into a mobile electronic drum set; just add a HiHat trigger and you are well on your way.

after purchasing 3 kickdrums in less than 2yrs for DM10, the problem i have is the small guage wires connecting the pad break loose over time. last purchase, lasted less than 3 months and all were brand new kicks. i opened the drum to find small guage wires broken in all 3 of my kicks. i asked for replacement parts but it is only sold as a single unit, which is unacceptable since this happens alot after speaking to the factory. there is no fix from Alesis, they only offered a used one for $72!
