Important information about myMix and off-the-shelf Ethernet switches:

  • Three or more myMix require an Ethernet switch (two myMix can be connnected directly to each other).
  • A myMix system with 16 or less channels, powered by the included power supplies, can use a standard 100Mbs unmanaged Ethernet switch.
  • POE (power over Ethernet) switches may be used to power each myMix. POE switches must be able to provide 15.4 watts of power on each port at the same time. Be cautious of marketing language that states "up to X watts per port". In many cases this is misleading and generally means that only a few of the ports will pass that amount of power at the same time. The best way to tell if a POE switch will power all of your myMix is to find the overall POE budget of the switch and divide that by 15.4. This will give you the number of myMix that can be powered by the switch.
  • A myMix system with more than 16 channels requires a managed switch. In many cases, POE switches that have enough wattage (POE budget) to adequately power several myMix are also managed. Managed switches should be configured with the following general settings (different manufacturers use different nomenclature, so if you are unsure contact the switch manufacturer directly):
    • - Create a VLAN 2
    • - Under Port Settings, set all ports within VLAN 2 to General
    • - Under VLAN to Ports, set all ports within VLAN 2 to Tagged
    • - IGMP Snooping status must be enabled for all VLAN
    • - IGMP Querier status must be enabled for all VLAN
    • - Bridge Multicast Filtering must be enabled for all VLAN
    • - Unregistered Multi-cast must be set for Filtering on all ports
    • - If you are connecting multiple switches you must assign a unique IP address to each switch
  • Movek recommends the Cisco 300 series family of switches as they are readily available around the world. The POE versions are extremely capable and provide a great value for the money. Movek offers preconfigured Cisco switches, or you can source and configure one of these switches yourself to save money:
    • - Cisco SF300-24P - POE switch with 24 100Mbs ports and 4 GB ports, will power up to 12 myMix via POE
