Microtech Gefell's M296S is a precision omnidirectional microphone that features a pure nickel diaphragm for accurate response throughout the audio bandwidth. A ceramic housing ensures temperature-stable performance and assures a uniform sensitivity at all frequencies. Ideal for ambient recording where a natural reproduction is desired. The M296S provides ruler-flat response that is suitable for true Class-2 test, measurement and instrumentation applications.

I’ve owned a pair of Gefell M296 for over 20 years. They are deployed mainly for choral/orchestra work, and solo piano. I’ve been recording since the 1970s (Primo omnis and Sony C-55 FET) and own a couple dozen mics, from SM57 to a TLM 193 pair. The Gefells are my “cold, dead fingers” pair. Nothing else comes close. They are amazing transducers… and my experience with Full Compass thru the years has been first rate as well. Cheers.
