Product Overview

Well-suited for most studio or live sound applications, Microtech Gefell's M300 miniature condenser microphones are great for adverse acoustic situations like houses of worship or auditoriums, as well as speech and sound reinforcement. The M300 has a 3dB boost from 6 to 10kHz.

The M300 is a microphone that combines the natural sound and detail of a gold evaporated 16mm diaphragm with space-age advancements in mechanical and circuit design. The M300 is versatile, exhibits very low self-noise, and is stable and linear at all temperatures, making it an ideal choice for critical recording and location sound for film and television production.

Inside, the microphone is split into 2 zones. The M3 capsule features a 16 mm, 24-karat gold evaporated diaphragm with Mylar (PE) substrate, which provides a great balance between articulation, high impulse response, and a warm natural frequency curve. The smaller capsule has the benefit of reduced membrane distortion, resulting in a more linear response as sound pressure levels are increased.

The capsule is constructed with a ceramic housing that provides greater stability when subjected to temperature changes. The capsule is pressure-mounted on a damped-spring pedestal. This has the function of improving the cardioid polar response while reducing unwanted reflections, thus minimizing phase cancellation. The compact body helps the M300 reduce vortex and disruption around the mic, which results in greater detail and a more natural sound.

The capsule is protected against severe pop blasts with a triple-layer front mesh and dual-layer side mesh. Pick-up pattern is axial, whereby maximum sensitivity is realized at the front of the microphone while off-axis response is both smooth and musical. A slight 2.5dB "presence rise" between 6 kHz and 10 kHz ads air, capturing subtle harmonic detail that is often lost as one moves off-axis.

To reduce noise, the Gefell M300 employs a circuit topology that incorporates optical isolation of the power grid for exceptionally low self-noise. Hash and ripple caused by voltage spikes from unfiltered 48V phantom power are eliminated resulting in clean noise/free power for the capsule. The transformerless preamp delivers a pristine, natural response while the symmetrical output assures quiet and efficient performance and exceptional rejection against RF.
